Avid rum drinkers from Bristol have come up with a new brand the city “can call its own” after years of hard work and determination. Alastair Polis and Tasneem Malik say rum is the spirit of choice for many across the city and have launched Bristol Rum Company to cater for the demand. The ‘Bristolian’ collective has spent the last 10 years conducting their own research across “99 per cent of the drinking establishments around Bristol” - and spotted a gap in the market.

A cafe popular with walkers, horse riders and cyclists on the Quantock Hills has announced plans to close in just a matter of days. The Foxy Bean Cafe in Adscombe has served as a pit stop on the edge of the Great Wood, Somerset, offering homemade lunches, pastries, cakes and hot and cold drinks to lovers of the outdoors for around five-and-a-half years.

Anger has erupted among staff at a Westcountry hospital over 'massive issues' with parking. Staff at North Devon District Hospital, in Barnstaple, say they have to battle it out to find spaces in an overcrowded, "muddy bog" car park. They say they have been told not to use patient car parks and should instead park 20 minutes away from the site. Staff reportedly have to arrive up to an hour early to get a parking space to avoid being late for work if they don't find one.

Temperatures are forecast to plummet across Somerset this weekend as a new cold front looks set to make tomorrow the coldest night of the year so far. Met Office forecasters have warned the mercury is expected to plunge after parts of the South West have seen double-digit temperatures for much of November so far.

National Highways is advising drivers travelling around the Almondsbury Interchange to allow extra time for their journeys ahead of the work taking place at junction 15.

A man in his 20s has died following a crash on a major A-road in the Westcountry. He died following a collision on the A361, in Barnstaple, at around 12.25am on Sunday (November 19). Police and the ambulance service were called to the incident which involved a blue BMW. A road closure was in place near Heanton Court while emergency services dealt with the crash, Devon Live reports.

Actor Joss Ackland has died at the age of 95, his family have said. The screen and stage actor, whose career spanned more than seven decades, died peacefully at home on Sunday surrounded by relatives, the statement given to the PA news agency said. He appeared in hundreds of films and television productions alongside his “rich and diverse” stage career, and was made a CBE for services to drama in 2001.

A number of roads remain closed across Somerset as heavy rain has brought flooding to rural areas of the county. Yesterday's downpours have rendered a number of routes impassable and the Environment Agency has issued a series of fresh flood alerts and warnings. The current scale of flooding does not match the same level of disruption brought by Storm Ciaran last week. Numerous roads were left closed by flash flooding, with key routes including the A358 and A37 seriously affected.
