Eighteen San Diego Hebrew Day School students were on an annual trip to Jerusalem when the conflict between Israel and Iran broke out. They spent half the trip in a bomb shelter and then managed a narrow escape, returning home on Wednesday afternoon. It was all hugs and happiness at the sight of the small band of eighth graders. "A tremendous sense of relief," parent Malka Weiser said. Weiser's daughter Nava Weiser could not wait to be reunited. "Attached at the hip, me and my mother," Nava said.

Around 150 people demonstrated for several hours on National City's Highland Avenue on Wednesday to express their anger over deportation tactics of federal agents. "I feel like this is really good. This is good to be out here and at least have something to say for it," demonstrator Israel Rico told NBC 7. Rico demonstrated for Black Lives Matter in the wake of George Floyd's death. He is part of the National City community and considers it his duty to stand up for his beliefs.

A cozy fire by the beach was about to be doused by San Diego's budget shortfall. "We shouldn't be able to let go of something so special that brings families together," beach visitor Claudia Cazares said. Getting a few hours around a La Jolla Shores fire is worth the wait for Cazares.

A housing development in Oceanside got the green light from the planning commission, but many people living near the project want it stopped. The developer wants to put 35 single-family homes on a 4 1/2-acre piece of land, near where Interstate 5 meets state Route 78. The proposed site for the Pacific Lagoon project, which overlooks Buena Vista Lagoon, is nestled in an established neighborhood of mostly single-family homes with sizable yards.
