The NBA playoffs are underway, and we have a bit more interest here in Tuley’s Takes than in other years. That’s because pro basketball usually plays to form, with the top teams advancing most of the time, as the cream usually rises to the top in a seven-game series. I normally try to bet my “dog or pass” plays in individual games as opposed to taking the series price, but this year it looks like we could have more series upsets (though I will still be betting my dogs on a game-by-game basis).

Finally! It’s obviously been a tough Big Dance here in the Tuley’s Takes home office with our “dog or pass” approach, but we felt a little redeemed in Saturday’s Final Four. First of all, I was glad that I invoked the “pass” option with Auburn +2.5 as I didn’t feel we were getting enough points, and the Tigers did come up short in their 79-73 loss to Florida, but we did cash with our Best Bet on Under 160. I wrote that I thought it should have been in the low 150s, and that’s right where it ended.

It’s April 3 here in the Tuley’s Takes home office as I write this, so we’re one month from the First Saturday in May and the 151st Run for the Roses in the Kentucky Derby. The Derby prep races have been heating up for 2025’s 3-year-olds to qualify for a spot in the 20-horse starting gate at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, and we have two prep races this Saturday that are also part of our VSiN Hoops & Horses Pick ‘Em Challenge in partnership with 1/ST BET.

We’re finally down to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament, and it can’t come quick enough for us here in the Tuley’s Takes home office, as we’ve suffered through the chalkiest NCAA tournament any of us can remember. I’m sure you all know by now that this is the first time since 2008 that all four No. 1 seeds have made it to the Final Four.

We’re all ready in the Tuley’s Takes home office for the Elite 8 (aka regional title games) on Saturday and Sunday. We’ve been happy to see underdogs barking more in the last two rounds after chalk was so dominant in the first round.
