A new full week begins, as the 2025 MLB season rolls onward. We’ve got eight games to think about today and, much to the chagrin of those looking for a distraction from their 9-5s, the only day game on the docket features a -300 favorite in a laundry battle royale between the Sox. But, we do have some rather intriguing night games to ponder and so that gives us something to discuss as we shake off the holiday weekend and get back into the rhythms of normalcy.

The Houston Astros are in search of a weekend sweep of the San Diego Padres on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball this evening. Houston’s win last night marked the first time this season that the Astros won consecutive games and just the second time this season that the Padres lost consecutive games, so Padres vs. Astros has some high stakes. We’ve got a banger of a pitching matchup tonight at Daikin Park, as it will be Dylan Cease for the visitors and Framber Valdez for the hosts.

We already know that some GM is going to take Ashton Jeanty very high in the 2025 NFL Draft. How many other GMs will go the running back route in this year’s first round? We did not have a single running back taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. It was the second time in three years that it happened, as Breece Hall was taken 36th overall in 2022. The 2022 NFL Draft marked the first time since 2014 that there were no first-round RB.

We’ll see if Mother Nature cooperates today and we get all 30 teams on the field. Yesterday was a wild weather day, as the Nationals and Rockies got snowed out and we had a million runs and multi-run homers in Chicago on a warm day with a very helpful breeze. Today’s forecast is tamed down for sure, but there are still some weather conditions to keep in mind.

The NBA playoffs are underway, and we have a bit more interest here in Tuley’s Takes than in other years. That’s because pro basketball usually plays to form, with the top teams advancing most of the time, as the cream usually rises to the top in a seven-game series. I normally try to bet my “dog or pass” plays in individual games as opposed to taking the series price, but this year it looks like we could have more series upsets (though I will still be betting my dogs on a game-by-game basis).
