Such episodes typically introduce some unhappy, disillusioned person seeking a return to "better days" to the devilish little guy who comes up with just such a deal. Of course a price must always be paid, and the time traveler's subsequent voyage often turns out to be a bummer, compared to whatever was exchanged. The devil doesn't make many bad deals.
