The dogfighting operation, spanning Georgia, Florida, and Alabama, was uncovered in 2022 after a 911 call led to the rescue of 27 dogs. Authorities seized drugs and cellphones containing evidence of extensive dogfighting involvement, ultimately rescuing 78 dogs. Sentences ranged from 100 months imprisonment to home confinement, with restitution ordered for animal care costs.

That was the message during a special event Friday in Savannah, as city leaders try to convey to the community that there are other ways besides guns to handle conflict. It’s a scene we’ve seen many times in Savannah, police investigating a crime where a gun was involved. So, in hopes of putting an end to that violence, the Savannah Impact Program hosted a Stop the Violence Rally Friday.
