Windy and turning colder Sunday with rain ending as snow showers or flurries.**-----------------------------Multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain are expected this week. Flooding issues are becoming increasingly likely.

Check back for updates on this significant winter storm.**Accumulating snowfall is likely for the entire region. Snow is expected to develop Friday afternoon from the southwest. The snow will likely be heaviest Friday evening and night. Plan to be off the roads by early afternoon Friday. The Friday evening commute could be dangerous.

Water levels have crested in most locations and are declining, with the exception of Cherokee Reservoir. TVA reports it is running all available generating turbines at Cherokee Dam. TheNolichucky River at the Nolichucky Dam in Greene County broke the record water level set in 1977 by about 9.5 feet! The water flow was nearly double the record and greater than Niagara Falls at one point!TVA says the Nolichucky River watershed received rainfall that was equal to a 1-in-5,000-year rain event.

** The StormTrack 5 Weather Team is declaring Wednesday through Friday Weather Alert Days. Occasional rain and thunderstorms will produce heavy rain at times that may lead to flash flooding. In addition, strong and gusty winds will develop Thursday night into Friday ahead of the remnants of Hurricane Helene as it races into/through the southern Appalachians. **Wednesday: Periods of rain along with scattered storms and downpours. Isolated severe storm possible. Humid. Highs 71-77.
