The Rocket League Championship Series Major tournament in Raleigh this week is expected to draw more than 5,000 fans per day to the Lenovo Center and generate more than 10,000 hotel room nights, according to the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau. Rocket League is a soccer-like video game for PCs and consoles in which the players are vehicles rather than humans, developed and published by Psyonix, which Cary, N.C.-based Epic Games acquired in 2019.

For soccer business stakeholders targeting the sport’s most engaged fans, those most likely to be watching and attending matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup are 18- to 24-year-olds, according to data from CivicScience/SBJ Sports Consumer Insights. That same age group, unsurprisingly, also had the highest interest in soccer, and is willing to pay the most for a ticket: 36% said they would shell out more than $100 per ticket. Men were also more willing to spend than women.
