    Former Greenville defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers shared his love of football with more than 250 campers at the fifth annual John Franklin-Myers Football Camp in Greenville. The campers practiced inside the Roy Q. Traylor Athletic Complex this time as the artificial turf and eight-lane track are being refurbished at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium. Franklin-Myers, with the aid of some Greenville coaches, friends and former teammates coached the athletes in two camps.

    During part of the football camp on Friday night in Greenville, the high school offensive and defensive linemen lifted weights in the newly refurbished John Franklin-Myers Performance Center that is powered by Freedom Ford-GMC. Franklin donated a significant amount of money to re-equip the weights in the weight room as did general manager J.P. Salcido of Freedom Ford-GMC.

    Greenville’s Jaxey Waker made the first team and teammate Kynna Rhoden earned second-team honors on the All-District 9-5A girls softball team. Walker, who batted .444 for the Lady Lions, made the first team as utility player.     The fifth annual John Franklin-Myers Football Camp is set for this weekend in Greenville but with a twist. It’s a free camp for offensive and defensive linemen on Friday for grades 9-12. The camp hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. with registration at 5 p.m.There’s also free camp for grades first through eight from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday with registration at 8 a.m. The campers won’t be practicing this time on the turf at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.
