NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The American Cancer Society has picked Hampton Roads to be involved in a new study to help fight breast cancer, focusing on Black women. Its called the Voice of Black Woman study. Researchers here and in Atlanta are looking for 100,000 women to participate in the study. They want 90% of participants to be African-American women. The goal of the study is to determine why Black woman have a higher mortality rate of breast cancer, despite more white women developing the disease.

To echo a recent article in Creative Salon, 2023 saw the wide scale return of humour to advertising and I, for one, was thrilled. But it can’t be a fad, a flash in the pan or a once-off. Humour has to be a staple in what we do. Reason No 1: It’s effectiveLet’s get this one out of the way first. There’s been a lot of research (Thanks, System 1) on this topic, so I won’t do a deep dive. Ads that drive an emotional response are good, but ads that do it with humour are great.

I don’t think I’ve ever intentionally made a new year’s resolution. I’m firmly in the “New Year Same You” camp. If I was going to start eating less peanut butter, I’d have done it by now, right? And of course, this year, I’ve missed the boat. (It’s 30 Jan when I’m writing this, in case you’re wondering.)But there is something that I want to be better at. Criticism. Taking it. Yep. Always one for improvement. But this is mainly about giving it, because in adland we love to give it.
