VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — One person has been shot in an incident on Heartwood Lane in the county. Just after 9:30 a.m., reports came in of a shooting on Heartwood Lane in the county. Heartwood is off Highway 80 near Ironwood. Initial reports indicate the as-yet-unidentified victim was shot in the upper thigh by a 15-year-old male who was known to the victim. Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies are at the location on Heartwood, and a paramedic unit has been dispatched to attend to the victim.

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) – Hayden McDougal was recognized by the Warren County Fire Service for his efforts to serve his community. At an annual event held to recognize Warren County Fire Service members, McDougal and his fellow firefighters were rewarded for their efforts in the past year. The annual celebration allows the firefighters to fellowship, highlight memories from the past year, and be recognized by their fellow firefighters for their efforts.

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A green SUV crashed into the Hunt Hale Alfa Insurance building on Clay Street near Adams Avenue around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, causing significant damage to the front of the building. Two suspects fled the scene. Video footage obtained by Vicksburg Daily News shows the vehicle crashing into the building, smashing through the glass and brick of the front of the Hunt Hale Alfa Insurance building before a passenger door opens.

WARREN COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — During the early days in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, three women rode horses wearing little more than their smiles. When Katrina hit Warren County in August of 2005, the storm caused massive power outages and shortages in supplies, including ice and gasoline. Long lines formed at gas stations at all hours of the day and night, with locals desperate to remain mobile.

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Elks held their annual Bud Lokey BBQ Cookoff fundraiser, raising thousands for two local groups. The Elks hosted a BBQ Cookoff that attracted several teams and hundreds of visitors to raise money for Haven House and Micah’s Mission in Vicksburg. This year’s Bud Lokey Memorial BBQ Cookoff started Friday night when teams from the region set up their smokers at the Elks on 61 South.
