(VDN) — Vicksburg police officer Steven Ragan is earning praise for his everyday acts of kindness, including helping stranded drivers — all while keeping a trunk full of tools to assist. In a recent social media post, Michelle Myricks thanked Officer Steven Ragan after spotting him helping a woman air up a tire on a busy street. “I was taking my grands to Warrenton Elementary School and spotted him kneeling down helping to fix a tire,” Myricks wrote.
Gould and Robinson honored in flag raising

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Local military veterans Don Gould and Michael Robinson were honored in a flag raising ceremony on the Old Highway 80 Bridge in Vicksburg this morning. At 11 a.m. a group assembled at the Dick Hall Welcome Center on Washington at I-20 to honor two local veterans, Don Gould and Michael Robinson. The Army and Navy Club of Vicksburg hosted the ceremony, and Dr. Tom Houseal sponsored the event.
Mississippi River Flood crest raised again

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The crest projection and date of the Mississippi River flood have once again been extended. The current river stage at Vicksburg as of 9 a.m. this morning is 48.38 ft. According to the latest projections, the Mississippi River at Vicksburg is expected to crest at 49 feet on April 28.

Born on May 10, 1935, in Laurel, Mississippi, Martha Jo cherished her family and the memories of growing up in Laurel. Two Vehicle Accident at Clay and Berryman

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Two vehicles, including a city Gas Department truck, have collided at the rain-soaked intersection of Clay and Berryman in Vicksburg. At approximately 6:45 p.m., a city Gas Department truck and a civilian vehicle crashed at the rain-soaked intersection of Clay and Berryman in front of Pizza Inn in Vicksburg. The city truck appears westbound on Clay when it impacted the gray truck at the intersection. It is unclear at this time what caused the accident.

The brainchild of Angela Wright Neilson and her husband Mark, the restaurant is the realization of a long-time dream for the couple after three years of hard work to get the space ready for business. “We spent three years getting the building ready. Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer reports, “The Mississippi River at the Vicksburg gauge is predicted to crest around 48 feet by April 23 and the backwater is predicted to crest around 90-91 feet.

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The source of the mysterious, loud explosion heard by thousands early Sunday morning has been identified: a fireball streaking across the sky. At 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Warren County residents were awakened by a loud explosion, which several people said sounded like thunder. Others reported hearing a second boom as well, and then a trailing sound, not unlike a tugboat. Hundreds of comments on social media included people from Utica to Sharkey County hearing the boom.
