(VDN) — Former Warren Central football standout Chris Stamps is continuing to climb the coaching ranks and is now entering his second season on staff at Southwest Mississippi Community College. Stamps, a Vicksburg native, currently serves as an assistant coach working with the Bears’ linebackers. Before arriving at Southwest, he held coaching positions at East Central Community College, Mississippi Delta Community College, and the University at Buffalo.

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Porter’s Chapel Academy has released its 2025 softball roster as the Lady Eagles prepare for a new season under the direction of head coach Billy White. The official roster was announced in late May and features a blend of veteran leadership and young talent across seven grade levels. White, entering his second year as head coach, previously served for several seasons as an assistant within the PCA program. He took over the team prior to the 2024 season.

With summer workouts underway, multiple Vikings have picked up scholarship offers from junior colleges across the state and region. Linebacker Chaka Walker, a returning defensive leader, recently earned his third scholarship offer.

FAYETTE, Miss.(VDN)—Fayette, Mississippi Mayor Londell Eanochs decided to postpone the city’s 4th of July Fireworks Show. The mayor’s decision comes just a couple of weeks after a mass shooting at the Fayette Fest that left one dead and six injured. 22-year-old Rayshaude Hudson lost his life in that shooting and law enforcement is still investigating the case. Mayor Eanochs made his official announcement last night on Facebook, and many local individuals supported his decision due to public safety.

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Warren Central High School has released its 2025–26 baseball roster, the school announced last week via Facebook. The Vikings will return most of their lineup after a strong 2025 campaign that ended in a trip to the MHSAA Class 6A North State Championship Series-the program’s second consecutive time reaching North State. Head coach Randy Broome will lead the team for another season. Under Broome’s guidance, Warren Central has won three straight district championships.
