Junior High Flashes end their season with a 15-7 record

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—St. Aloysius Junior High School baseball team wrapped up their season last week. The Flashes finished with an overall 15-7 record where they went on four and five-game winning streaks with their seventh and eighth graders. At the start of the season back in February, the junior high squad began things with a doubleheader victory over East Rankin Academy. They won 13-5 and 8-7. By mid-season, the Flashes traveled across the bridge to Tallulah Academy to win 15-0 and 14-9.
Warren Central Indoor Percussion wraps up their season as world semifinalist

DAYTON, OH. (VDN) — Warren Central Indoor Percussion had an extremely successful 2025 season. The team competed in the WGI World Championship over the weekend in Dayton, Ohio, earning a top-twenty slot in the world. Over the first two weeks of April, hundreds of ensembles sought to claim a world championship title in the scholastic and independent divisions, beginning with Color Guard competition from April 3-5.
1-year-old killed in Delhi crash

DELHI, LA. (VDN) — On Sunday, April 13, 2025, shortly before 1 p.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash in Delhi, La. on U.S. Highway 80 just east of Louisiana Highway 609. The crash claimed the life of 1-year-old Amella Kyles of Bastrop. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 27-year-old Shanice Kyles, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 80.
Vicksburg’s power lifter LeAndrew Drake finished second at the state meet

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg High School power lifter LeAndrew Drake finished second at the state meet last month. Drake lifted in the 181-pound weight class, where he bench-pressed 285 pounds, squatted 580 pounds, and deadlifted 530 pounds. The junior athlete was able to experience his first time at the state meet after much training and preparation to compete with the best. “It was fun and I was ready,” Drake said.
Tallulah Academy knocks off Wilkinson County Christian

TALLULAH, La.(VDN)—The Tallulah Academy baseball team picked up two wins in a doubleheader against Wilkinson County Christian on Friday night. The Trojans won 13-4 and 5-4 to improve to 13-10 on the year. A huge fourth inning where TA scored 10 runs helped them run-rule WCC.

The sale will take place April 12–13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 110 Lightcap Blvd. The academy, which receives no outside funding, will use all proceeds to purchase technology for its students. Items for sale include gaming systems, filing cabinets, home décor, playsets, books and office supplies.
Flashes claim their first district title since 2014

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—The St. Aloysius baseball team reached a huge milestone on Friday night when they claimed their first district title in over a decade(2014). The Flashes took down Cathedral in a doubleheader to achieve the long-awaited goal. In game one, St. Al run-ruled the Green Waves 11-1 as they collected a total of six hits. The Flashes scored four runs in the first inning, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth.
Vikings win their third straight district championship

RIDGELAND, Miss.(VDN)—For the third consecutive year, the Warren Central High School baseball team are the district champions. Everything became official on Thursday when the Vikings defeated Ridgeland for the second time this week to remain undefeated in district play. WC used Beau Bradley, Ryan Steed, and Caden Cole as pitchers to claim the win. The team also finished with a total of 11 hits on the night.
One injured after striking power line on Gibson Road

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A serious single vehicle accident at the 5400 block of Gibson Road near Lee Road has left one injured and a power line down in the area. Just after 11 a.m. a report of a single vehicle accident was reported a the 5400 block of Gibson Road. According to reports, one individual has been transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center after AirCare was cancelled.
Legislature shelves ‘Last Dollar’ free tuition bills aimed at boosting Community College enrollment

JACKSON, Miss. by Jeremy Pittari (Magnolia Tribune) — Bills that sought to drive students into Mississippi’s community colleges through the promise of “free” tuition died after making their way across the Capitol this session. The House of Representatives passed HB 1556, called the Mississippi Connecting Career and Technical Education Employability Program. It sought to assist students seeking a degree or certificate in a high-demand, skilled career path.
