Suspect in custody after fatal shooting

BROOKFIELD, Ohio — A suspect is in custody after a shooting early Saturday morning left one person dead, according to a press release. John Zanolli, 61, of 7938 Third St., Masury, is currently in Trumbull County Jail on a charge of aggravated murder following an incident that was reported at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

HERMITAGE — The Hermitage Board of Commissioners has its officers in place for the new year. During the board’s reorganization meeting Monday, Duane Piccirilli was re-elected president, while William J. Moder was re-elected vice president. Both votes were unanimous. Piccirilli and Moder served in the same roles on the five-person board in 2024. In other business, the commissioners appointed Black, Bashor and Porsch LLP as auditor for the years 2024, 2025 and 2026.

HERMITAGE — Tails of Hope, Inc. marked its first day of business in 2025 with “Happy Newter Day” Friday, offering discounted neutering procedures and raising awareness among pet owners. First responders were dispatched at 11:23 a.m. Sunday to 114 Frkonja Lane, Delaware Township, where a 100-by-100-foot wooden barn had caught fire, according to Mercer County 911. Responding fire departments included Fredonia, Sheakleyville, Mercer East End, Transfer, Hempfield and Greenville.

SHARPSVILLE — Sharpsville school board's president and vice president will retain their positions into 2025 following the board's reorganization meeting Tuesday evening. Board President Darla Grandy and Vice President Kevin Setterberg re-secured their positions in a pair of elections held during the meeting. Board member John Heutsche nominated Grandy as president, while board member Michael Lenzi nominated board member Jerry Trontel.
