I woke up from a dream and realized it was actually a memory of gunboats coming at us just outside of Santa Barbara Harbor. This definitely added something wild to a charter fishing trip. It can be a bit disconcerting to watch an inflatable gunboat barreling down on us with a massive machine gun mounted on the bow. Especially a gun that could probably cut my boat in half, like a giant chainsaw, in about three seconds flat.

Hungry fish forage for food dislodged from the rocks by the turbulent water.

I took a drive to Phoenix, Arizona, just a week into May to see my son and his family. What made it a phenomenal drive was that much of the desert in both California and Arizona was receiving surprisingly heavy rainfall. Near Desert Center, there was sizable hail coming down hard, leaving ice on the desert floor. Talk about a strange sight.
