CYRIEL DESSERS pulled his shirt up over his face and shook his head in disbelief. Pity it wasn’t the one he’d been wearing at the start of the night — because then we could have looked through the hole in the front to see whether he was laughing or crying. There were 20 minutes to go and the big striker had just given a Bilbao defender the kind of nudge in the back that wouldn’t have knocked a passing midge off its flightpath.

ANDREAS HINKEL knew Arne Engels was special when he saw him hold his own in a dead-ball battle with Kevin De Bruyne. Now the ex-Celtic star has tipped the club’s £11million record signing to show his true quality in the coming years. KALLE VASSE had no fears over giving Viljami Sinisalo a senior debut for FC Espoo aged just 15. Eight years on, the Finnish coach reckons the Celtic keeper will take his Premiership bow against Hearts in his stride. Sinisalo, 23, is set to get his big chance to shine, after Hoops No 1 Kasper Schmeichel picked up an injury on Denmark duty. Vasse was FC Espoo gaffer when he plucked Sinisalo out of the youth team to face BK-46 in a Third Division match.
