    Local distance runner Lewis Crowe finished eighth in the Boston Marathon on Sunday. No, not THAT Boston Marathon, which takes place ‘across the pond’ next week, but Boston in Lincolnshire. Do not let that overshadow Lewis’s achievement, as there were 863 finishers in the event. Lewis ran a very impressive time of 2:41:41, taking just over 12 minutes off his previous best set in Valencia last December. He previously completed the Manchester Marathon last April.

    Endurance athlete Sarah Webster has notched up yet another incredible achievement by claiming two British records. Although she has moved back to live in the UK and is now running in the colours of Lewes AC, Sarah is still very much one of our own after contributing such a huge amount to athletics on the Isle of Man over the past decade. She represented the Isle of Man in the women’s Marathon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

    The multi-talented Eve Martin proved what a fine multi-event athlete she is by winning the Lancashire U13 Girls Pentathlon at Stanley Park. This competition in Blackpool was part of the two-day Lancashire Combined Events Championships 2025. The Manx Harriers athlete finished second in the 70 metres hurdles with 12.5 seconds, not her best time but she was running into a stiff headwind. In the long jump she was the winner with a distance of 4.24 metres.

    There are just over three weeks to go until one of the big highlights of the year for local runners. The 61st IQ-EQ Isle of Man Easter Festival of Running comprises three races over Easter weekend, each of which offer spectacular racing and a great atmosphere. The landmark 60th Festival in 2024 attracted a record entry of 605 and more than 35% of runners ran personal bests.

    Ryan Corrin and Corbyn Schade both ran extremely well in Sportsshoes Podium 5km Festival in Leicester. On Saturday (March 15), Manx Harriers’ Ryan had a superb run to set a time of 15:34, just one second outside his personal best. Whilst Western AC’s Corbyn was delighted to break the 16-minute barrier for the first time with a brilliant time of 15:51, a remarkable improvement of 29 seconds on his previous best.
