Grey cloud draped itself menacingly across the county for week five of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League but, despite the cooler conditions, disruptive rain stayed away. The mood was far from gloomy at Queen’s Park, where Paignton made it four from four with a dramatic 42-run win over Sandford in the Premier Division. Noah Wright and Luke Medlock’s solid opening stand of 101 set up the prospect of a big total, with Medlock again looking in exquisite form.

So far, so very good weather-wise in the 2025 Tolchards Devon Cricket League. And the same can be said for Paignton in the Premier Division. Three wins from three. The latest by four wickets at Exmouth. Captain Harry Ward was back after injury, but the toast was once again Luke Medlock. Electing to bat, Exmouth reached a respectable 279-8, despite being 12-3 early on. Skipper Finn Marks (84) and Cameron Kidd (113) led the recovery with a partnership of 195 for the fourth wicket.

The sun shone warmly from azure skies across the county for week two of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League. Queen’s Park in Paignton was a happy place to be as the home side engineered their second Premier Division win from two starts. The visitors, Heathcoat, were held to a total of 185 all out. Ayabulela Gqamane and George Woodcock capturing three wickets each. In reply, Paignton recovered from 35-4 to reach their target, in the 38th over, for a four-wicket win.

Despite a mixed forecast earlier in the week, sun-laden early summer weather conditions greeted players and supporters for the opening Saturday of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League. Shining brightest, on first view, were the coloured playing kits and pink ball that have been voted in, and will be the order of the day, in this year’s Premier and A Divisions. The inception is somewhat inevitable given its universal adoption across cup and T20 fixtures.

After a very encouraging week weather-wise, it’s time to warmly welcome back the Tolchards Devon Cricket League this Saturday. Eighteen weeks await local cricket lovers and the army of passionate and dedicated volunteers who keep the show on the road year after year. Our only local Premier Division representatives this year are Paignton, where Harry Ward is the new captain.
