    Aurora may finally separate the cats from the dogs. An Aurora City Council committee agreed Wednesday to issue certificates of participation for $27 million to finance a new animal shelter in the city. But some council members expressed reservations about the move. Council member Francois Bergan said she wants the city to solicit shelter contributions from the three counties that fall within the city limits as well as nearby cities, some of which contract out their animal shelter services.

    (Aurora, Colo.) -- A total of 565 vehicles have been towed since Jan. 1 under a new Aurora tow law adopted in September 2024, according to Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain. He offered the statistic Thursday during the safety committee meeting of the Aurora City Council. The law, sponsored by council member Stephanie Hancock, also is being considered at the state level. It allows for an immediate tow if a driver has no license, no plates, and no insurance.

    Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky said Thursday she is hearing from Denver Police officers who are unhappy there and may be interested in coming to work in Aurora. Jurinsky explained during the public safety meeting of the council that several Denver officers have called her and complained about their working conditions. She said some officers are upset because their mental health benefits have been reduced to just one visit per month. Previously, the visits were unlimited.
