A banned motorist who was pulled over by police was able to drive home after the officer failed to do the "proper checks". Marek Cicko was behind the wheel of a Mercedes when he was pulled over by police near Westgate Road in Newcastle last year. But despite being disqualified and driving without insurance, the 35-year-old was "sent on his way" by the officer who'd pulled him over after they failed to carry out the proper checks.

A drug dealer began dealing cocaine to pay off his debts after forming a "habit he couldn't afford". Lewis Yip was caught in possession of six wraps of cocaine when police pulled over his car in Jesmond in September 2022. When officers examined his mobile phone, messages relating to drug dealing were discovered. Newcastle Crown Court heard that Yip was also being provided with a step-by-step guide from an unknown person on how to deal drugs, advertise them and collect debts.

Two men have appeared at court charged with the murder of Barry Dawson. Barry Dawson, 60, died after being shot through a downstairs window on Elm Street, South Moor, in Stanley on Saturday, April 5. Following his death, a major police investigation was launched and a number of suspects have since been arrested. On Monday, Kelvin Craig Lawson, 37, and Thomas Lee Sterling, 21, appeared at Teesside Crown Court charged with murder.

Last weekend, the tight-knit community of Stanley was rocked by the alleged murder of Barry Dawson. For many residents, a shooting in the town was something completely unheard of, and many still can't believe it actually happened. Following Barry's death, the police response was swift and a number of suspects have already been arrested, with some appearing at court. On Friday, Kevin Dorward, 38, and his partner Michaela Hetherington, 35, appeared at Teesside Crown Court.
