    A story in Friday’s Review-Journal poses a question as to whether Vegas is a sanctuary city. Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and Gov. Joe Lombardo claim it’s not. The Trump administration claims otherwise. A March 27 Review-Journal article indicated that Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill is not in favor of cooperating with federal authorities on immigration issues. During the Biden administration, 546,000 immigrants were granted temporary protective status in the United States.

    We constantly hear complaints about vehicles on our roads that don’t appear to be appropriately registered here. As a 16-year local resident, with no accidents or traffic violations, could the reason that people don’t comply be the cost involved to do so? First, a registration renewal requires a smog test that has nothing to do with the vehicle’s ability to be operated safely on our roads, just for emissions. That’s about $25. Annually. Next, we have the annual renewal fee. That’s a joke.

    A headline in the March 27 Review-Journal indicated that Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill is not in favor of cooperating with federal law enforcement agencies. Obviously, the sheriff didn’t get message coming from Nevadans on Nov. 5 of last year. I sincerely hope he reconsiders his position. Now that an arrest has been made in the local Tesla arsonist incident and considering the suspect’s social media background, it becomes very clear the need for cooperation amongst all of law enforcement.

    Mandatory mail-in ballots are an invitation for fraud. They also add to election expenses and cause delays in results. Mail-in ballots should be available upon request to those asking, as was the case prior to COVID. They are no longer needed as an emergency measure and shouldn’t be mandated. Gov. Joe Lombardo should prioritize eliminating this waste and potential for fraud, created in 2020 by legislative Democrats.
