Mike Trevorrow has been promoted to senior vice president for global manufacturing at General Motors Co., effective immediately. Trevorrow’s appointment follows the departure of JP Clausen, who left the company in April after a little more than a year with the Detroit automaker. Trevorrow has led global manufacturing engineering at the carmaker since last year, and in his new role he’ll maintain his previous responsibilities, GM said in a press release.

Effective Wednesday, tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to the U.S. have been doubled to 50% for most countries. The White House said in an executive order Tuesday that the increased tariffs will better counter foreign countries’ offloading of low-priced excess steel and aluminum. Steel and aluminum from the United Kingdom will remain at 25% as part of a recent trade deal. The duties on steel and aluminum for all countries were previously set at 25% in March.

AbstractThe discovery of superconductivity under high pressure in Ruddlesden–Popper phases of bulk nickelates has sparked great interest in stabilizing ambient-pressure superconductivity in the thin-film form using epitaxial strain. Recently, signs of superconductivity have been observed in compressively strained bilayer nickelate thin films with an onset temperature exceeding 40 K, although with broad, two-step-like transitions.
