Last September it had been sent to the Deerpark Town Board, the Orange County Ethics Board, the Orange County District Attorney, the NYS Comptroller and NYS Attorney General.

By David OfshinskySenator James Skoufis (D-42) stopped by Deerpark Town Hall on March 14 to look over the safety equipment purchased by the Town with funds from a grant provided through his office. The $50,000 the Town received for its successful grant application provided for the purchase of 20 automated external defibrillators (AED’s), seven life jackets, three high power hand lights and a new base radio.

By David OfshinskyThe proposal by Quarry Management for an amended site plan, lot consolidation and zoning changes for its project on Rt. 6 in Deerpark was met with a barrage of tough questions at the March 12 Planning Board meeting. Planning Board Attorney Glen Plotsky began by asking John Fuller, representing Quarry Management as project engineer, if they were working on reducing “that monstrosity,” referring to the enormous mountain of soil and stone at the eastern end of the project.

By David OfshinskyTwo longstanding issues were on the agenda at the March 10 Deerpark Town Board meeting. Both date back a year to the March 6, 2024, meeting, when updating the Town’s 50 years old Ethics Code and the need for zoning laws for battery storage facilities were first discussed. At the March 2024 meeting, Local Law #1 was proposed to create a moratorium on battery storage facilities. This was prompted by an application before the Planning Board for a commercial battery storage facility.
