A grand celebration of the history and traditions of the Mustang Follies will mark the annual Mustang Days variety show next week as the Follies are staged under the title Legends and Legacy – 60 Years. The Follies will be staged Wednesday and Thursday, June 25-26, at the historic Hyart Theatre, home to the Follies since the show began as a melodrama in 1965.

Mustang Days begins FridayBy David PeckThe 2025 Lovell Mustang Days celebration is upon us, and there are some additions and deletions to the traditional schedule from recent years, along with some time and location changes. Legends and Legacy is the theme of the ’25 celebration, based on the Follies theme of the same name, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Dollies of the Follies. The fun begins this Friday, June 20, with the annual Drag Main moving car show.

It’s kind of hard to imagine Rod Winland not coaching at some level of local sports anymore. Coaching has been a huge part of his life for nearly his entire life. His father, Ralph, was a coach, as was his older brother Tim. Younger brother Pat is still coaching. Rod Winland has worn that whistle for some 30 years. But retirement has called for the longtime local special education teacher, and while he absolutely loves coaching, his time as a coach is over, at least for now.

A volunteer project to improve handicap access at the Lovell Rodeo Grounds is nearly finished with the painting of a concrete pad on the south side of the stands and the installation of an adjacent handicap ramp to the stands. Project leader Pat Steed said Miller’s Fabrication installed the new aluminum ramp a few days ago, and on Tuesday Rob and Jacob Winterholler of Rocky Mountain Surfaces painted the pad, donating their time, paint and signs.

After dealing with the issue of whether to allow chickens in the town limits (see June 12 edition), the Lovell Town Council continued with other business during the regular monthly council meeting on June 10. Public Works Director Adrin Mayes took the council through a detailed analysis of the municipal swimming pool operated jointly by the town and School District No. 2. Mayes showed photos and provided details about the state of the pool equipment and lining.
