Even mention the word “blood,” and a lot of people get really uncomfortable. Squirming. Fainting. Vomiting. You have likely seen it or maybe even experienced it yourself. Visions of vampire bats and Dracula — and, far worse yet, pain and suffering and death — come to mind. The term “bad blood” is even known to most of us. Just ask Neil Sedaka and Elton John. Why would something that is essential for life be viewed in such a negative fashion?

Pigs that are gene-disabled for cancer are coming soon. To date the FDA has approved only two genetically modified animals, a fast growing salmon and an allergy proof swine. Both those animals cater only to specialized markets, such as organ transplants. Genus is seeking FDA approval for a cancer gene-disabled pig that would be the first genetically modified animal to be consumed on a wide scale.
