    WESTFIELD, NJ — Opening night of the Westfield Community Players newest play, “Rope,” is March 8. Set in London in the 1920s, the show tells the story of a murder, which is not hidden from the audience, and its fallout. The play was adapted into an Alfred Hitchcock-directed film released in 1948. The Westfield Community Players' adaption is closer to the play than the film. “It's a very academic play, but also quite a thrilling one," said Ross Pohling, who plays Charles Granillo.

    WESTFIELD, NJ — Decorations for Chinese New Year hung all along the walls of Edison Intermediate School on Saturday, as the Westfield Area Chinese American Association celebrated the holiday with activities and performances showcasing Chinese culture for the community. After activities for kids in the afternoon and a dinner in the evening, more than 100 participants gathered in the auditorium to enjoy several performances by local Chinese performing artists, including dancers and singers.

    WESTFIELD, NJ — “So, there’s this show called ‘LEGO Masters.’ It was really fun and I felt like one,” said 9-year-old Ava about the “Build Westfield” LEGO event Saturday. The family-friendly program at Westfield High School was put on by Building Blocks Workshop, and organized by the Westfield Historic Preservation Commission with the Westfield Recreation Department. About 40 teams made up of people of all ages each choose one of 60 notable buildings in Westfield to recreate.

Actually, it’s Westfield author Matt Myklusch with his new superhero graphic novel series, “Imagine Nation.”Myklusch visited Westfield Memorial Library on Wednesday to promote the first book of the series, “The Blood of Kings,” and to introduce the community to the world of graphic novels by leading an activity for the young participants to create their own superheroes.

    WESTFIELD, NJ — Chocolate Hanukkah gelt glided down on little parachutes from extended firetruck ladders Thursday at the annual Westfield Menorah Lighting on the north side of the Westfield Train Station. Led by Rabbi Levi Block of the Union County Torah Center-Chabad, the event also featured popular Jewish music and lots of kosher jelly doughnuts. Rabbi Block gave a d’var Torah (a lesson from the Torah) before the menorah lighting ceremony. He emphasized the idea of miracles.
