Thirty-seven students from Westfield High School’s Youth and Government (YAG) Club participated in the 81st Annual New Jersey Youth and Government Conference, held April 25-27 at the Hilton East Brunswick. The three-day event welcomed 400 students from more than 20 high schools across the state, offering a hands-on opportunity to experience the legislative, executive, and judicial functions of state government.

The Y wants to ensure that water safety doesn’t get lost in the family's eagerness to jump into the summer. As temperatures rise, kids want to cool off, whether that is in home pools, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams or oceans. And that means the risk of drowning is as prevalent as ever. May is National Water Safety Month, and the Westfield Area and Cranford YMCAs are encouraging parents and caregivers to reinforce the importance of water safety skills with the whole family.

The same family that has operated Dittrick’s Wines & Liquors in Garwood for more than 20 years celebrated the grand opening of their new shop, TheWestfield Liquor Loft, at 22 Elm St. on Friday. “We love the downtown Westfield area,” said Bianca Shah, one of the shop’s owners.

Fifth grade students at The Wardlaw+Hartridge School in Edison performed two classic Greek stories as classroom plays for their biggest fans, their Kindergarten buddies! The featured stories were The Trojan War, written and performed by 5C, and Perseus and the Gorgon, written and performed by 5S. The students worked hard for several weeks to adapt their stories into scripts, create props and costumes, and rehearse and prepare to stage their performances.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A busy corner in the central business district is due for an injection of new life after the planning board approved proposed changes for 201 Central Ave. at its meeting on Monday, May 5. The building, which sits at the corner of Lenox and Central Avenues, will retain its current foundation, but will be new otherwise, according to presentations made to the board by Richard Schkolnick, an attorney representing the developers of the property.
