WESTFIELD, NJ — An Air Quality Action Day for Ozone has been declared for Wednesday, June 4, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The air quality in our area will become unhealthy for sensitive groups, it said. “Ozone concentrations are forecast to reach the moderate range along the I-95 corridor and in southern portions of the state, while fine particulates are expected to reach the moderate category statewide,” the DEP said on its website, AirNow.gov.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Fraud cost residents thousands of dollars recently, including a scam by a phony “talent manager” who took $5,000 from their victim, Westfield Police said Tuesday. On May 30, the resident told police that an unknown person had contacted them via social media posing as a celebrity and talent manager, police said. “Over multiple months of messaging on social media, the unknown subject coerced the victim into sending approximately $5,000 via ‘MoneyGram,’” police said.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Among the incidents reported to police last week, a business in town reported that someone lit a firecracker inside their bathroom, police said Tuesday. The firecracker that was set off by an unknown suspect on May 31, at about 1 p.m., caused damage to the business on the 100 block of Central Avenue, police said.

Blake shot 1-under (70) thru 18 holes in the morning finishing in a five-way tie for sixth entering the afternoon in a 36-hole marathon for U.S. Open Final Sectional Qualifying at Woodmont Country Club (North Course) in Rockville, Maryland.
