The First Baptist boys soccer program won its first state title since 1991, winning the SCISA Class AAA state championship with a 3-2 win over Pinewood Prep on May 10. The championship win avenged a loss to Pinewood Prep in the 2024 state finals and capped the season with a 15-4 record. The two area powers split two games during the regular season.

Saturday’s SCHSL state championships in boys tennis was affected by weather and a venue change, but that didn’t affect Oceanside Collegiate’s drive for a fifth consecutive state title. The Landsharks made quick work of Upper State champion Clinton in the Class AAA finals 6-0. The finals began at the Cayce Tennis Center but moved to the indoor facility at the University of South Carolina for the finish. Oceanside Collegiate did not lose a set during its 2025 playoff run.

The month of May means state championships in the world of South Carolina high school athletics. The state already has crowned state titlists in lacrosse and South Carolina Independent School Association boys tennis, track and field, and golf, and there will be more hardware handed out over the next three weeks. Championships in South Carolina High School League boys tennis and SCISA soccer will be decided on May 10, while soccer, baseball and softball advance into district play.

It took a little longer that coach Tom Harris expected, but the Oceanside Collegiate boys lacrosse team climbed back to the top with a resounding 22-2 win over May River in the Class AAAA state championship contest, played on Monday night. Harris guided the OCA program to state championships in 2018 and 2019 and had reached the state semifinals three times later but came up empty.

IRMO — Only a few miles separate the campuses of Wando and Lucy Beckham high schools, but the two schools are forming quite the powerhouses in lacrosse. On May 3, the schools combined to win three state championships at Irmo High School. Wando’s boys team claimed its ninth state title, beating Dorman 18-1 in the Class AAAAA Division I finals, while the Lucy Beckham boys team won its fourth straight championship, beating Nation Ford 14-5 in the Class AAAAA Division II finals.

Happy moms day to all the moms...my mom died 10 yrs ago...she was 4-11 tall and a wonderful pianist...her ability to make use of whatever she had to deal with 4 sons helped us grow into men...even the curling iron as I can attest to 😆 take care of my 2 boys up there ..miss ya
