    In the program’s first District Championship Game appearance in 10 years, the Cascade Lady Champions second half rally came up short against the top seed in District 9-AA, the Cannon County Lionettes, 52-36, in Bell Buckle on Thursday. Sophie Ray led the way for Cascade with 14 points, but despite cutting the lead to as close as 40-28 with 5:48 to go in the fourth quarter, the Lady Champs never really got comfortable against the length and athleticism of the Lionettes.

The previous three seasons, the Champions began tournament play in the district semi-finals, already having a regional quarterfinal game secured.

    The Cascade Champions were unable to sustain their fast start on Senior Night against the Grundy County Yellow Jackets, losing 61-50 at home to the sixth-ranked team in the state on Tuesday. It was just an all-around brutal loss for Cascade, as not only did they drop the actual game, but Grundy County now also holds the district tournament seeding tiebreaker over the Champs after hitting a buzzer-beating three to win by 11 instead of by eight.

    The Cascade Champions went on the road Friday night and knocked off the top-ranked team in Class 1-A, the Santa Fe Wildcats, and spoiled their homecoming in a 56-51 heart-stopping win. With Mr. Basketball favorite Auden Slaughter on the sidelines in street clothes, Cascade took full advantage of his absence in the third quarter, outscoring the home side 13-5 to give them a 40-32 lead going into the final frame.
