The third and final Battle of Bedford on the hardwood ended with Cascade taking the season series, 69-61, to finish in third place in District 9-AA behind a career-high 36 points from senior Isaac McElroy on Friday. McElroy’s right wing three-pointer with just under two minutes to go put the Champions ahead for good, 61-58, after Community had erased a double-digit Cascade lead earlier in the fourth quarter.

The Cascade Champions came into Monday night in unfamiliar territory under fourth-year head coach, Chris Lawson, needing a win to open district tournament play to secure the program’s 11th consecutive regional berth. The previous three seasons, the Champions began tournament play in the district semi-finals, already having a regional quarterfinal game secured.

The Cascade Champions were unable to sustain their fast start on Senior Night against the Grundy County Yellow Jackets, losing 61-50 at home to the sixth-ranked team in the state on Tuesday. It was just an all-around brutal loss for Cascade, as not only did they drop the actual game, but Grundy County now also holds the district tournament seeding tiebreaker over the Champs after hitting a buzzer-beating three to win by 11 instead of by eight.

It was a complete domination from start to finish for the suddenly surging Cascade Champions on Tuesday night as they went on the road to defeat the Forrest Rockets, 64-29. Zach Crosslin led the Champs with 12 points and was the only player to reach double-figures, but the balanced attack across the board was the story offensively. Tucker McGee scored nine points, Wickey Parker put in nine points, and Saebyn Burris and Logan Pulley chipped in with seven points as well.

The Cascade Champions went into Saturday’s matchup against the fourth-ranked Grundy County Yellow Jackets in dire straits, and they were on the verge of making the wrong kind of history. Coming into their third district game of the season, the Cascade Champions were looking to avoid starting 0-3 in district play for the first time this century, and they had to do it against a 13-1 Grundy County team and their star in Sam Parsons.
