Taiwan’s Kavalan is the island’s first non-government owned distillery, with production beginning in 2006. To date, they’ve released a wide variety of single malts across various cask types, including some we’ve found truly exceptional. (The recent Whisky Vinho Barrique Cask Strength comes to mind.)In March 2025, Kavalan announced the U.S. launch of its commemorative, 15th Anniversary Vintage 2009 Whiskies.

The sixth and final chapter of the Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection is finally hitting (select) shelves. With a 50-year age statement and $60,000 price tag, it’s the oldest single pot still Irish whiskey ever released. The Silent Distillery Collection pays homage to the Old Midleton Distillery, which operated between 1825 and 1975.

High West’s Bourye has built a sort of cult following among some American whiskey fans, with its production dating back to the early 2010s. The bourbon/rye mashup often contained highly-aged whiskey from multiple distilleries, and fans chased new tastes as the blend and profile shifted from one year to the next. After about a decade as a nationwide release, High West changed Bourye to a distillery-only bottling, so customers needed to purchase it in Utah.

The first bottle of Maker’s Mark Cask Strength. https://t.co/hL2rRkT4Yv

So…I’m bummed to say I didn’t love this one. I think the team at the (new) Old Commonwealth is doing cool things and will inevitably release some bangers. But for all the secondary market hype, I found this thin and grassy. I wouldn’t drink it again. https://t.co/b4MjbhyasD
