When Tina and I met many years ago, she soon realized I didn’t have any close friends. I explained that being a single dad for more than 10 years, there was no time for anyone but my children. My kids gave me power that can’t be explained. I’m sure there are many of you out there who can relate. I loved being their father, plus quickly learned the role of a mother.

I believe we can all relate to today’s topic. Think about certain negative events in your life that led to good news. Here is one of mine. After 20 years in orthopedics, it was time for me to resign. The industry was changing, and my character and reputation was to be protected. It’s funny, back in the day, when I was in my 30s and 40s, it was common for young men to ask how much I bench pressed. I do realize Memorial Day passed a few days ago, but I thought to share some history and facts surrounding such an important holiday. Most of you know, I lost my oldest son Army Specialist Dustin Ray Tepera, who served in the Iraq war from 2008 through 2012. He was a gunner who road last at the back of convoys. Dustin's job was to protect the squad from the enemy attacking from the rear. Well, Dustin was involved in combat and was awarded for his bravery. He did help save his brigade.
