The Daily News, which was previously known as the Galveston County Daily News and the Galveston Daily News, is a newspaper based in Galveston, Texas, USA. It began its journey on April 11, 1842, and holds the distinction of being the oldest newspaper in Texas. Additionally, it played a significant role in establishing The Dallas Morning News on October 1, 1885, as a sister publication. Today, The Daily News serves as the official newspaper for both the City of Galveston and Galveston County.

    I come from a long line of porch sitters. This is why I am always on my porch. In my neighborhood, I am affectionately known as “that weirdo freak who’s always on his porch.” This is usually said in a positive way. But I can’t help it.
