Letter to the Editor: On the Lysander special election

To the editor:About the special election in the town of Lysander on June 9 as to making the highway supervisor an appointed position rather than an elected position. I would like to share my opinion on this subject. I have lived in the town for 58 years and voted for 40 years. I do not remember every having anyone on the ballot in November for this position other than the person that was chosen by the Lysander Republican Committee. This position was always unopposed.
Chamber to honor Four Seasons’ John Goodfellow

As an employer, as an instructor or as a volunteer, John Goodfellow has touched the lives of tens of thousands of people during his nearly eight decades in Fayetteville. Goodfellow, who owns the Four Seasons Golf and Ski Center, will be honored by the Onondaga East Chamber at the annual Party for the Pantries on June 10 at Heritage Hill. Goodfellow, whose family goes back “four, maybe five generations” in Fayetteville, is the oldest of six children.
Patrick E. Clancy, 84

Loving husband, father, grandpa and friend, Patrick E. Clancy passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born in Syracuse on November 4, 1940, a native of the Delphi Falls area and was a graduate of Fabius Pompey High School. The majority of his employment was as a fork lift operator at Carrier Corporation in Syracuse for over 30 years. In “retirement” Patrick went on to maintain the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Pompey.
Russell A. King, 96

MANLIUS – Russell Adams King, 96, of Manlius, died at home on April 25, 2025. He was born in Syracuse, NY on April 22 1929 to Harry and Gladys (Adams) King. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Sarah Anne King in 1987 and the love of his life, his best friend and wife of 60 years, Joan (Jiggy) in 2012. Having grown up during WWII, Russ was drawn to serve his country as all of his older cousins had.
Despite challenges, Purpose Farm endures

VILLAGE OF BALDWINSVILLE – After a tough winter, Sandra Seabrook is looking forward to Purpose Farm getting back to its mission. The farm, which was founded in 2009 and opened to its mission in 2012, mentors at-risk youth by pairing them with some of the many rescue animals on the property. If it’s anything, Purpose Farm is a calling for Seabrook. In 2008, she went on a mission trip and visited a number of orphanages.
Manlius to put new town hall up to a vote

TOWN OF MANLIUS – Residents of the town of Manlius will likely have the opportunity to vote on the town’s plan to purchase property and construct a new town hall and police station at an as-yet undetermined location. At last Wednesday’s Manlius Town Board meeting, Supervisor John Deer said it was the board’s intention to have a referendum on the November 2025 ballot that would allow voters to decide whether the town issues bonds for the construction of a new town hall.

TOWN OF MANLIUS – On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Manlius Town Board passed a 2025 budget that will raise property taxes for Manlius homeowners by a significant percentage. In the two weeks since the public hearing on the spending plan, the town made several adjustments to the plan in an effort to drive the projected tax levy increase down. Still, the tax levy for the General Fund, which is supported by all the property owners in town, will increase by more than 23 percent to $11.17 million.
CLA highlights health of lake at annual summit

CAZENOVIA — At the 17th annual Cazenovia Lake Summit, held late last month, the Cazenovia Lake Association and a variety of other stakeholders provided the community with an update on the health of the lake and a variety of efforts to protect the lake from invasive species and other potential negative impacts. “It’s clearly our top priority,” CLA’s Bob Crichton said of invasive species prevention, adding that $1.25 million has been spent mitigating the impact of milfoil on the lake since 2008.

VILLAGE OF MANLIUS – The village of Manlius is prepping for its second annual Swan Fest, which will take place Oct. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m.At the Village Centre and Amphitheater, the Pop Culture Band will play from 1 to 4 p.m. and Jeff the Magic Man will provide strolling magical entertainment from 1:30 to 3 p.m.Throughout the festival, local artisans and vendors will display their wares and information tables will be set up for community businesses and organizations.
N. Burdick St. apartment proposal rejected

TOWN OF MANLIUS – The town of Manlius has opted not to move forward with a proposed Planned Unit Development at 5912 N. Burdick Street that had been proposed by Brolex Properties. The board cited the concerns related to traffic and the impact on the neighborhood, and commended the many residents of the community that voiced their concerns. Plans for the Brolex proposal called for two four-story apartment buildings on the 5.8-acre parcel.
