    GENEVA — We do not know much about children’s radio consumption. Official radio measurement systems only partially measure this target group and only in a few markets. However, this doesn’t discourage several broadcasters that run dedicated children’s services. In a recent analysis, I identified 22 European radio stations that target children. These stations represent a wide range of target age groups, from babies to teens.

    ATHENS — Radiodays Europe 2025 was held in Athens from March 9–11. According to the organizers, the event brought together more than 1,500 radio and audio professionals from nearly 50 countries to discuss the major changes and challenges facing the industry. At the opening, Greece’s Deputy Minister Pavlos Marinakis emphasized radio’s enduring importance as a trusted, timely, and democratic medium.

    This year’s World Radio Day in Milan, Italy, organized by media company Radiospeaker, will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20, at Talent Garden Calabiana. The event, usually held on Feb. 13 to align with UNESCO’s World Radio Day, has been moved to avoid clashing with the Sanremo Festival, a major event for Italian broadcasters.

    The latest Rajar figures show that in Q4 2024, radio in the United Kingdom reached 50 million weekly listeners, representing 87% of the adult population. Total listening hours stood at 1.033 billion, with digital platforms accounting for 72% of listening. DAB remained dominant at 59%, followed by smart speakers (22%), websites/apps (15%) and DTV (4%).

    ROME — Rai, Italy’s national broadcaster, has temporarily closed its Rome headquarters after finding elevated asbestos levels in parts of the building. The facility at 14 Viale Mazzini, constructed in the 1950s when asbestos was commonly used, showed airborne fiber concentrations above legal limits during recent testing. This discovery prompted immediate safety measures.
