The Patrick County softball team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Region 2C tournament. The Cougars fell to Chatham, 7-0, at Botetourt Sports Complex. The Cougars and Cavaliers split two contests this regular season. Chatham got the best of PC on Tuesday by outhitting the Cougars 10-4. Chatham's Cora Liggon threw a complete game and finished with 13 strikeouts to just one walk.

STUART — Lilly Hazelwood and Hayden Lawless aren’t strangers to the postseason. The duo has helped lead Patrick County in the Region 2C tournament for the past three years, including a trip to last year’s championship game and Class 2 state playoffs. That experience showed in the Cougars’ regional quarterfinal against No. 7 Dan River on Monday evening.

DRY FORK — The Halifax County and Magna Vista baseball teams played a Piedmont District Tournament Championship game with more twists and turns than an Appalachian Mountain road. In the end, it was the Comets that came out on the top of the summit as Halifax held off Magna Vista, 10-8, for its third consecutive district tournament championship on Thursday at Tunstall High School.

RINGGOLD — Sophomore Aubreigh Large drove in three runs, while junior Journey Moore and sophomore Lacey Sutphin recorded two RBIs each as the Patrick County softball team ran past Dan River, 11-2, in non-district action on Monday evening. It was the top of the fourth inning that made the difference as the Cougars scored five runs in the frame to break open a tight game. Sophomore Taylor Lawless gave Patrick County a five-run lead with her double to left that scored senior Lilly Hazelwood.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Brunswick Community College broke open a close game in the back half for an 8-1 win over Patrick & Henry Community College in an elimination game of the NJCAA Region 10/South Atlantic Tournament on Thursday at Burlington Athletic Stadium. It was the bottom of the sixth inning that played the big difference on Thursday as the Dolphins tagged P&H, the No. 4 seed in the West, for two runs.

MARTINSVILLE — Fans in attendance for the Piedmont District showdown between G.W.-Danville and Martinsville on Thursday night left Hooker Field looking for a way to decompress. With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore Kelin Reid worked a bases-loaded walk that lifted the Bulldogs to a thrilling 15-14 walk-off victory over the Eagles. Martinsville (2-9, 1-5 Piedmont) entered its final at-bat facing a three-run deficit.
