Martinsville High School senior Asonti Price committed on Tuesday to continue his football career at Averett University in the fall. Price was a left tackle for the Bulldogs the last two seasons, and plans to stay at that position in college. "It's amazing," he said of his signing ceremony. Averett is coached by Patrick Henry, who will begin his fifth season this fall. The Cougars compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. "I like the way they spoke to me," Price said of why he chose Averett.

One of Martinsville High School's most decorated track runners committed on Tuesday to continue her career at the NCAA Division I level. Rickyah Mitchell-Hairston signed her letter of intent to join the women's track team at Longwood University in the fall. With one season remaining, the Bulldogs senior has a state championship, seven region titles, 10 all-state and 13 all-region finishes to her name.

The Magna Vista and Dan River softball teams faced off in the first game of the season - a game the Wildcats won, 10-4. On Monday in Ridgeway, Magna Vista got its revenge. Warriors pitcher Morgan Smith struck out 11 and her defense played error free in a 3-2 win over the Wildcats. Smith threw a complete game and allowed nine hits in Monday's win.

With a 3-0 record in dual matches this season, the Carlisle School golf team is feeling good as they move through the spring. The Chiefs are coming off of a 150-164 win over Roanoke Catholic on Thursday at Roanoke Country Club. Senior Logan Williams led the way, shooting 35 to finish as match medalist for the day. Williams was the third different Chief to take home match medalist honors this season.

Earlier this season, Christopher Bell became just the 17th driver to win three straight NASCAR Cup Series races. This weekend, Denny Hamlin will look to be No. 18. Hamlin has won the last two NASCAR races at Martinsville Speedway and Darlington Raceway. If he were to win this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, it would be just the fifth time two different drivers won three straight races in the same season.
