It's Thursday afternoon in Adelaide and the River Torrens beams the reflection of a cloudless sky. A father and his son stop for some brief respite in the shade. "Not bad, hey mate?" the father asks as he hands over a bottle of water to the young man, surely no older than 10. "Better than school," the kid replies, with a beaming smile that suggests understatement. Knock-off is still hours away but already civilisation has spilled from the CBD to the river's banks.

We'd been waiting all weekend for it. Arguably all summer. From the moment the Gather Round fixture dropped in November, with Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn the last game on the bill, people have been talking about it, hyping it up. My top 30 rankings for this year’s #AFLdraft for @abcsport have been settled on. Think the actual draft order will look a lot different to this which speaks to the evenness and the fact a handful of clubs have multiple early picks. https://t.co/ADGUYxrnT5

Last one from Paris. I’m still in awe of the athletes I saw and the moments I got to share in, but it turns out that’s only half of the Olympic story. At these Games there was life-affirming hope everywhere you looked. @abcsport https://t.co/rNXtjth9UK

Steph Curry, LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama, that French crowd. A moment in time never to be repeated. On a magical night befitting the last two weeks we’ve all shared from Paris and beyond. @abcsport https://t.co/CFb83H3nv0
