We too often hear “this is a huge game … a must win.” But Game 2 of these 2025 NBA Finals is awfully significant for the Oklahoma City Thunder. So much so that it led me to tweet: ‘What’s more likely? OKC winning the title in five games? Or the Thunder being swept. Blasphemous here in God’s Country, I know. Former Thunder big man Kendrick Perkins is rapidly becoming a popular voice as an NBA analyst. You can tell in the attached extended interview why Perk is gaining steam as the playoffs continue. You wouldn’t know it by watching Stephen A. Smith’s Monday morning show, but the OKC Thunder steamrolled shorthanded Denver in Game 7 and now advances to the Western Conference Semis. In over two hours of coverage, First Take, that morning show … somehow failed to discuss Sunday’s convincing 125-93 win. Headlined by the presumptive league MVP’s 35-point game, which now has OKC the betting favorite to win the NBA Championship. New York producers apparently weren’t impressed with those storylines.

Thunder guard Alex Caruso expects a tougher matchup against Memphis on Tuesday night, following Oklahoma City's blowout win by more than 50 points in Game 1 on Sunday. "Yeah, you can always improve … they missed some shots that they normally make … some of it's just tightening the screws," Caruso said. Head coach Mark Daigneault said he expects Memphis to come out with more intensity in Game 2. “We're going to get a more physical, more motivated, more connected, faster opponent,” Daigneault said.
