The hype has gradually built around one unheralded draft pick this offseason. Jacory Croskey-Merritt is making more waves than most seventh-rounders, and the Washington Commanders have taken notice of his seamless transition accordingly. Croskey-Merritt was the No. 245 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft through no real fault of his own. The backfield threat saw his stock crash after having his eligibility revoked by the NCAA just one game into his transfer to Arizona.

The Washington Commanders made a lot of good moves throughout general manager Adam Peters' second offseason in charge. But one questionable decision already looks like it could backfire. Washington gave Michael Gallup a route back into the league after one year in retirement. The wide receiver didn't take being released by the Dallas Cowboys well and walked away from the game entirely rather than fight for a spot on the Las Vegas Raiders.

It's certainly not been dull for the Washington Commanders when it comes to the trade market this offseason. But the latest wild rumor is a step too far. Adam Peters landed both wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. and left tackle Laremy Tunsil with the team's Super Bowl window open. This came after acquiring Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore before the 2024 deadline, which didn't reap immediate rewards thanks in no small part to a lingering hamstring issue that's now fully healed.

The Washington Commanders' all-in trade for left tackle Laremy Tunsil remains a subject of fierce debate. One AFC scout thought Adam Peters overpaid to secure his services, but for a very good reason. Jayden Daniels is a phenomenon. He's the franchise quarterback everyone associated with the Commanders thought he'd become. The No. 2 pick in 2024 did this much faster than anticipated, which left Peters with no option other than to build around his new prized possession.

The Washington Commanders traded Montez Sweat as part of their roster regeneration when Josh Harris' ownership group took charge. The Chicago Bears were only too willing to take the defensive end off their hands for a second-round pick, paying him handsomely almost immediately after. However, one NFL analyst believes this decision is now coming back to haunt them. Sweat is a solid professional and a fantastic player when firing on all cylinders.
