    By Dean ThompsonDaily Press StaffOn Thursday night in Bayard, there was supposed to be a volleyball match to decide the District 3AAA championship as the Cobre High School Lady Indians were supposed to host the Lady Tigers of Hot Springs High School. Cobre would have had the edge going into the match as the Lady Indians beat Hot Springs in four sets a couple of weeks ago in Truth or Consequences.

    The Cobre High School-Hot Springs High School volleyball match scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. According to reports, the Cobre volleyball team has played its maximum number of matches as prescribed by the New Mexico Activities Association. With the forfeiture by Cobre, Hot Springs will win the regular-season District 3AAA title. Cobre beat Hot Springs in four sets a couple of week’s ago. More on the Cobre forfeiture will be published in Saturday’s Silver City Daily Press.

    It was a little different rodeo than in the past, but big crowds flocked to the Southwest Horseman’s Association Arena on Friday and Saturday nights for the Wild Wild West Rodeo. This year, the rodeo committee decided to cut the action down to just two nights of performances, instead of three or four days that rodeo fans have seen in the past. “As the rodeo chairman, I couldn’t be more happy with the success of this year’s event,” Mike Rocko said.
