    SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) - City officials for Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, say they’ve made the “historic” decision to create a full-time fire chief position to manage the local volunteer fire department. Starting Tuesday, July 1, Anthony Gaul will officially take the position, becoming the fire department’s first-ever full-time fire chief. Gaul has served as the volunteer chief for the last 16 years and has been a member of Sergeant Bluff Fire Rescue since 1991.

    SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Woodbury County Treasurer is warning consumers about another text message scam that’s been affecting people across the area. County treasurer Tina Bertand said her office has fielded dozens of phone calls from people worried about text messages that say they have a traffic violation that must be resolved by June 6, or their vehicle registration will be canceled. Below is an example of one of these scam texts.

    NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) - As storms hit Siouxland Monday, June 2, one community is experiencing hundreds of power outages. MidAmerican Energy’s Outage Map shows over 400 customers are without power in North Sioux City, South Dakota. The outages were first reported around 7:47 p.m. on Monday and are expected to be restored by 10:15 p.m. The cause for the outage is listed as “emergency repairs made to electric facilities.” Sioux City is also reporting several outages.

    VERMILLION, SD (KTIV) - Starting on the evening of Monday, June 2, several parts of Siouxland saw storms that caused damage to homes, trees and vehicles. Some of the hardest hit areas were in Southeast South Dakota, in communities like Elk Point and Vermillion. Both towns saw heavy rain and hail, with wind taking down tree limbs. In Vermillion, a storage unit facility received heavy damage. KTIV has put together the gallery below of the damage seen across Siouxland.

    STANTON, Neb. (KTIV) - A judge has sentenced a mother and son from Northeast Nebraska on drug charges in Stanton County. The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Kyle Kirstine and 64-year-old Debra Udell were both sentenced for possession of meth. Kristine was also sentenced for failure to appear. He got two years in prison for each charge but will serve both sentences at the same time. Udell got two years of probation for her meth possession charge.
