Dear Editor: I would like to express my gratitude for the remarkable act of kindness demonstrated by Jay and Jackie Lauderdale, and Cat and Barthold Lichtenbelt in making a nearly one-million-dollar donation toward the purchase of the Swiss Village Mobile Home Park. For months, the possibility that this property could be sold—displacing many of our neighbors—weighed heavily on Ouray as a whole, especially on the residents of Swiss Village.

40 YEARS AGO
August 8, 1974 – Over 40 people attended the Ouray City Council meeting Monday night, most of whom opposed the issuance of a new 3.2 beer license in town. After hearing opinions from both sides, the council unanimously voted to deny the application of Frances Ann Holman for a license at 325 Sixth Ave., presently Hopscotch Leathers. Holman and LaVerne Wager proposed to operate the 3.2 establishment as partners.

Install solar panels over parking lots
Dear Editor: We see that there is some discussion on where a solar grid should be located in Ridgway. It appears that rooftop installs are not in favor. Many folks are in favor of solar; but not on my neighbors' roof? However, rather than disturb vacant land, we suggest that solar installs be placed over parking lots. There are several parking lots in Ridgway including the Ridgway library, town hall, Frontier Park, the high school, etc.

Just three days into Kristin Kelley’s tenure as Ouray County public health director, county leaders tasked the department with facilitating greater access to low-cost, accessible mental health resources, showing the commissioners want the department to prioritize the issue.
