Kolkata: The Murshidabad violence was a "planned communal riot" orchestrated by BJP with the help of central agencies, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday, questioning the role of Union home minister Amit Shah. Banerjee also questioned the "unseemly hurry" to change the waqf law when the situation in neighbouring Bangladesh remained volatile. The CM accused the Union home minister of using multiple agencies against the state and urged PM Narendra Modi to "control" Shah.

News‘Momentous’ inauguration of Jagannath temple on Akshaya Tritiya: CMKolkata: The newly constructed Jagannath temple would be inaugurated on April 30, Akshaya Tritiya, between 3pm and 3.10pm, after the ritualistic consecration of Lord Jagannath begins around 11am, CM Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday after convening a high-level meeting. The CM added that darshan would begin once the gates were opened to the public. A cultural programme will be held around 2-2.30pm, before the inauguration.

Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday appealed "with folded hands" to all communities to not get provoked into breaking the law. "Today, on the eve of Poila Baisakh, I urge everyone to peacefully exercise their democratic rights (to protest) with prior permission," Banerjee said. "But remember, whoever you are, A, B, C or D, do not take the law in your own hands. Some people may instigate you but do not be provoked. Those who keep a cool head despite provocations are the true winners.
