But first... the headlines…. San Diego County’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.2-percent in March. That’s down from 4.4-percent in February. The government sector gained the most jobs. Leisure and hospitality, private education and health services also added jobs. The trade, transportation and utilities sector lost the most jobs.

The District One county supervisor’s race appears to be heading for a July run-off. As of Tuesday, the Republican mayor of Chula Vista – John McCann – leads all candidates with about 44 percent of the vote. He’s followed by Democrat Paloma Aguirre, the mayor of Imperial Beach.

San Diego County is looking to speed up DNA testing in hundreds of sexual assault cases and dozens of cold-case homicides. The County Board of Supervisors yesterday (Tuesday) approved a request from the Sheriff’s Department to pay a local company to help with the backlog.

Officials are warning seafood lovers to avoid San Diego County shellfish that isn't from a state-certified commercial harvester or dealer. Dangerous levels of domoic acid have been detected in locally harvested mussels. The toxin is produced by harmful algal blooms. It can cause illness or death.
