What a week! So much has been happening that I barely know where to start. Perhaps I will start with a random tweet I posted a few days ago, not knowing it would have such an overwhelming response. Do you have a doctor and a health system that you trust? Recently, I had the privilege of interviewing Dr Teck Khong.Teck leads a new kind of political party, one with no right or left leanings. The Alliance for Democracy and Freedom is a centrist party with common sense policies.

It’s a bumper blog this week to make up for a slightly slimmed down version in October. Hang onto your hats; there is much to discuss! I am almost dizzy with news! I have déjà vu. Are you also feeling as though we have already been here? As one circus rolls out of Washington, DC, another rolls in. It’s a similar show with different rides and different performers. However, I spy a ghost train and a few very steep, scary rollercoasters ahead.

It was fantastic to meet so many like-minded souls in Bristol at the UK Column On Location conference. Meeting face-to-face and sharing so many hugs felt incredible. Many thanks to you all. Weren’t our speakers incredible, too? I have massive respect for all of them. I would like to share with you the two recurring questions I was asked at the event. For many months, all of us at UK Column have been warning that September 2024 will be when we see a cascade of new ideas, change, regulation, and legislation. We weren’t joking. But if you think September has been fast-paced and extraordinary, it’s just a prelude of what is to come. At last, I was able to return to the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency’s (MHRA) live-streamed Board Meeting. I had been keeping my eye out for tickets daily. My patience was rewarded.

September has finally arrived, as have the rain and overcast skies. Where was summer? Did it come and go without my noticing? Albeit a few isolated sunny days, it’s been mostly miserable. Summer downpours and floods are always the worst. And it’s official: the UK has endured the coolest summer for almost a decade. So much for ‘global warming’.The so-called experts can’t have it both ways, right?

Thank you to the person who made me aware of this quote from C.S. Lewis: You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. I wonder if Alice knew that? Many tell me they are only one person and can’t save the world. Others tell me they are too old to worry about the future as they won’t be alive to be a part of it. Still others tell me it’s too late and the damage is already done, so what will be, will be.

The holiday season has officially arrived. Far from a hot summer, it appears to have been, for the most part, wet and windy here in Cornwall. That has not deterred anyone, however, and Cornwall is rammed to the rafters with holidaymakers. Perhaps August will bring some needed sun. Since my last blog, we have seen the demise of President Joe Biden as he stepped out of the race for the American presidential elections. Will Gerald Ford’s prediction back in 1989 prove to be prophetic?

I have a packed blog this week. In a week when the former President/current presidential nominee of the United States was shot at a presidential rally, tensions are high in the Western Hemisphere. Back in the UK, there are plenty more clues as to our future from the Tony Blair Global Institute for Global Change, as they have mapped out the Future of Britain. The events appear to have been largely missed by the public all in the name of football.

It’s been another busy week at the UK Column. A week feels like a day, and time continues to feel as though it is speeding up. The news never stops to sleep, and more so than ever before, the dramatic fake news stories just keep on coming. If you are breathless, I understand perfectly. So am I. It certainly is all about change. By the time you are reading this, the UK will have a new Prime Minister. God help all of us.
