1 INTRODUCTION In 2020, people aged 60 years and over comprised 13.5% of the world's population, and this is projected to increase to around 20% by 2050 (World Health Organization, 2020). Modernisation and globalisation have precipitated advancements in treatment options and shifts in lifestyle habits and risk factors. Consequently, more older people are living longer with chronic conditions, placing increasing pressure on healthcare services (Haugan & Eriksson, 2021).
