Jamshedpur: A district-level inquiry committee has been formed after textbooks meant for free distribution among students in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district were allegedly stolen and sold to a scrap dealer recently, an official statement here on Tuesday said. The committee has been asked to submit its findings within 48 hours, officials said, adding the incident took place at Chakulia block.

Mumbai: Students till Class four should be taught only in their mother-tongue, according to Tara Bhavalkar, president of the 98th All India Marathi Literary Conference. “At that age, a student’s physical and mental capacity should be taken into consideration,” Bhavalkar, 86, said. Her remarks came amid growing opposition to Maharashtra government’s policy on including Hindi as “generally” the third language in Marathi and English medium schools from Classes 1 to 5 from the academic year 2025-26.

Shimla/Nahan (HP): A teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing 24 girl students at a government school in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, officials said on Monday. The mathematics teacher has been remanded in police custody for three days and suspended from service, they said. The accused was arrested after the students of classes VIII to X complained to the school principal about the harassment. The school authorities informed the police which took him into custody.
