“It’s just a tragic accident,” said Maria Morales. “It’s really heartbreaking,” said Victoria Hernandez. “Just an accident happening and taking a young life like that, it really hit very close,” said Morales. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reports the girl was hit by an SUV after the vehicle first collided with a car at the intersection of Encinitas Boulevard and Village Square Drive. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Maria Morales said she works nearby and heard about the crash.
