Members from organizations including the Michigan Parent Teacher Association, Church of the Messiah in Detroit and Giffords, a nonprofit organization that advocates for stricter gun control policies, asked Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) questions regarding the upcoming November presidential election at a virtual town hall meeting Sunday. Benson discussed topics such as voter eligibility, early and absentee voting, and how the state of Michigan will ensure secure elections.

The University of Michigan granted the 2023 to professors Aaron Dworkin and Christian Sandvig earlier this month. These awards honor faculty who exhibit exemplary dedication and innovation regarding public engagement and impact. Dworkin identifies as a poetjournalist, a term that he created. In an interview with The Michigan Daily, he defined the term and said he hopes to advance poetjournalism as an academic discipline and further its incorporation into the media.

The University of Michigan’s Central Student Government released its official semesterly election results after the elections concluded on March 28. Students elected 45 total representatives across the schools and colleges within the University to serve on the CSG Student Assembly as well as one seat on the U-M Police Department Oversight Committee. The ballot also included amendments CA 13-005, CA 13-006 and CA 13-007 to the Student Body Constitution. CA 13-005 passed with 3,374 votes in favor.

University of Michigan alum Sikander “Sonny” Khan founded the nonprofit Paani Project in 2017 working to provide clean water, health care, education and sanitation to Pakistan. Khan received The Diana Legacy Award for his humanitarian efforts on March 14. Khan was one of just 20 people worldwide to be awarded the Princess Diana Legacy Award, which focuses on recognizing young people for their contributions toward positive change.
