In Tuesday night’s PIAA 3A boys lacrosse matchup between Easton and Pennridge, somebody was going to get the first state tournament win in program history. It looked like it was going to be the Rams early, who posted a pair of goals just over a minute into the contest before host Easton got a touch of the ball.

Neshaminy is no stranger to playing spoiler against Lehigh Valley teams in the PIAA 6A baseball tournament. The Redskins ended Liberty’s season last year, Parkland’s four years ago in its last state tournament appearance and sent the Trojans home again on Monday in a 3-1 victory at Parkland High School in the first round of the PIAA 6A Tournament.

Following a dramatic run from a four-seed to district champion completed on Tuesday, Notre Dame-Green Pond still had work to do to qualify for the 16-team PIAA 3A baseball tournament field. The Crusaders used a scrappy second inning and an outburst for insurance runs in the sixth to handle District 1 representative Bristol 8-1 in Friday afternoon’s District 1/11 3A subregional play-in game at DeSales University’s Weiland Park.

The highest seed to win a District 11 softball championship in the last 22 years was coach Ed McIntyre’s sixth-seeded Easton Red Rovers who won four straight games to claim gold in the 4A bracket. 14 years later, led by his granddaughter Audrey Rinda, McIntyre and the Red Rovers did it again with a 5-0 victory over No. 2 Nazareth on Thursday night at Pates Park to complete an improbable run to a District 11 6A championship. “Honestly, I’m just so proud of all of us.

One of the longest and most successful dynasties in local high school sports history is the one that Brian Neefe led during his 52 years in charge of the Southern Lehigh softball program. Kristin Boyer, who was one of the many he coached on the way to 37 league and district titles, was entrusted to carry on that legacy when she took over for the retired legend last season.
